A journey that began together in January 1997
We are the men who joined the Indian Navy in January 1997. Our journey began together at INS Chilka, where we underwent six months of basic training before moving on to ship training and professional training.
From those early days of training, our paths took us to ships and establishments across the Indian Navy. We served in different places, performed different duties and experienced different chapters of naval life — but the foundation remained the same: the training, discipline, values and friendships forged together at the beginning of our careers.
Our journey followed a common beginning before taking each of us to different ships, establishments and experiences across the Indian Navy.
Our naval journey began when we joined the Indian Navy in January 1997.
We trained together at INS Chilka, beginning with six months of basic training.
After basic training came ship training, taking us closer to the realities of life and service at sea.
Professional training prepared each of us for the responsibilities and specialisations that followed.
Following our training, members of the 1/97 Batch went on to join ships and establishments across the Indian Navy.
Our individual careers took us in different directions. We served in different environments, took on different responsibilities and built our own professional experiences. Yet, wherever our service took us, we remained connected by the common experience of having started this journey together.
This section of our history will continue to grow as members contribute their service stories, ship details, photographs and memories.
The years in uniform gave us more than professional experience. They gave us values and bonds that continue beyond our naval careers.
The discipline and standards developed during our training and service continue to shape our lives.
We may have followed different paths, but the bond created by shared training and service remains.
The values we learned in the Navy continue to influence everything we do, in uniform and beyond.
Every member has a story. Every ship has a memory. Every photograph captures a moment that should not be forgotten.
